Farewell Programme 2025

The farewell programme held on 3rd June 2025 at Unity College of Teacher Education was an unforgettable experience—both heartfelt and meaningful. With the theme “From Learners to Leaders,” the event was a beautiful tribute to our seniors and their transformative journey.

This farewell was more than just an event—it was a celebration of friendship, growth, and shared memories. It reflected the very essence of Unity College: a community that nurtures, supports, and inspires. I feel grateful to have been part of such a heartfelt celebration, one that I will cherish for years to come.

Cultural Day 2025

On 6th May 2025, Unity College of Teacher Education (UCTE), Dimapur hosted a grand celebration of Cultural Day cum Food Fest under the theme, “Blending Culture”. It was an event that highlighted the cultural richness of Nagaland while promoting culinary creativity.

Shri. Veswuzo Phesao, Retired Deputy Director (Project) of the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) graced the occasion with his presence as the Special Guest. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting local culture, stating that it is not only crucial for maintaining our identity but also holds immense value in both the National and International context. He shared how the diverse cultures of Nagaland could offer valuable insights and lessons to the world, especially in this fast-changing and growing Westernised era.

A significant highlight of the event was the Traditional Chutney and Salad Dressing Competition, which introduced an exciting, new experience and interactive dimension. It creatively blended traditional Naga ingredients, offering a unique fusion of culture and food.

Being a part of this event, I found it to be a deeply enriching experience. It provided an integrated opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and its relevance in today’s modern world. The event was not only engaging and educational, but it also fostered creativity, unity among students, contributing to a vibrant and inclusive campus atmosphere. It also aligned meaningfully with holistic and multidisciplinary learning, reinforcing the significance of contemporary education.

Cultural Day 2025

Unity College of Teacher Education, Dimapur, celebrated its Cultural and Food Fest on the 6th of May 2025 (Tuesday) under the theme “Blending Culture”. The event was graced by Shri Veswuzo Pheasao, Retired Deputy Director (Project), NEZCC, as the Chief Guest.

The celebration featured a cultural drama based on Sumi folklore, a vibrant cultural show highlighting traditional attires, and captivating folk songs and dances that reflected the rich heritage of different communities. Adding flavor to the festivities was a unique Traditional Chutney and Salad Dressing Competition, which showcased indigenous culinary creativity.

One of the highlights of the event for me was participating in the Traditional Chutney and Salad Dressing Competition. Eight of us representing both semesters took part in the competition, each bringing a piece of our culture to the table.

It was a great privilege to be part of the competition and I was overwhelmed with gratitude and joy when I was honoured as the winner. More than just winning, it was about being seen, about representing a piece of my culture and having it appreciated. The experience deepened my understanding of how food connects us, how tradition can be both preserved and celebrated in such simple yet meaningful ways.

More than anything, the day reminded me of the beauty of unity in diversity. Through every performance, every dish, and every shared moment, we lived the essence of the theme. It’s a memory I will carry with me as a student, as a future teacher, and as someone proud of where I come from.

Peace Count Workshop

The Peace Count Workshop was held on 2nd June at the Reading Room, under the guidance of Dr. Aton Mungleng Assistant Professor of UCTE. It was an enriching session organized as part of the Peace Education course, which we will be taking up in our fourth semester. The workshop was conducted by our seniors who are currently enrolled in this course, and it served as a valuable opportunity for us, the second semester students, to learn from their work and experiences.

The session was meaningful and eye-opening. We got to witness various exhibitions presented by our seniors—these included stories of global peacemakers, powerful slogans, and creative representations of how peace can be fostered in different contexts. From stories about famous personalities to unexpected peacemakers like sports teams, the diversity and depth of content made us realize that peace can be built in so many different ways.

One of the most impactful moments of the workshop was the brief interaction we had with our seniors. They shared their thoughts on why being a peacemaker is important, not only within the framework of the course but also in our everyday lives. Their insights helped us understand that peacebuilding isn’t something limited to grand actions—it starts with empathy, understanding, and our daily choices.

Personally, I learned a lot from this workshop. It broadened my perspective and reminded me that peace is not just a subject we study—it’s a value we must live by. It also motivated me to take the upcoming Peace Education course more seriously, knowing how relevant and powerful it can be in shaping our roles as future educators.

Peace Count Workshop

The Peace Education course team conducted a thought-provoking activity that encouraged us to reflect on the importance of peace and understanding in our lives. It displayed beautiful Peace Counts posters and inspiring quotes, and they explained each of them effectively. I was particularly inspired by the story of “Peace Boat” from Japan. The “Peace Boat” is more than just a ship- It is a symbol of global friendship and learning where people from different backgrounds come to work together for peace and to encourages mutual understanding

Overall, it was a meaningful and fruitful event that helped us reflect on our roles as future educators in promoting peace and understanding.

Poster Exhibition

The Poster Exhibition conducted by the 4th Semester Peace Education Students of UCTE on the theme “Peace Counts, Peacebuilders around the World” was both inspiring and educational.

The students did an excellent job in explaining their posters with clarity and enthusiasm. Their passion for the subject was evident as they not only presented well-researched content but also actively engaged with the audience. It was particularly commendable how they encouraged junior students to consider enrolling in the Peace Education Course in their 4th Semester, highlighting its importance and relevance in today’s world. One area that could enhance their presentation was to provide follow-up resources or links to further reading that could help students explore the topic of peacebuilding in greater depth.

Overall, the exhibition was great and it reflected the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

FDP on “Understanding NAAC: A Benchmark for Quality”

On the 13th of December, 2024, a Faculty Development Program (FDP) was held on “Understanding NAAC: A Benchmark for Quality”.

The resource person, Adani Ngullie, Assistant Professor at Unity College, Dimapur, spoke on the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as a benchmark for quality education. The resource person emphasised the importance of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in the college. The teacher-educators were sensitized to the need for colleges to form different clubs, cells, and committees.

As a participant, I have gained many insights concerning the requirement for an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in the college. The resource person’s expertise and experiences have enlightened all participants regarding professional preparation and institutional growth.

Feedback on the FDP conducted by Dr. Lanusangla Tzudir, Founder and Publisher of the Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur for the faculties of UCTE on 21st November 2024 on the theme EDUCATORS TO AUTHORS at the conference room, UCTE.

The talk was very motivating and encouraging as it helps in understanding the nuances of publications. It was truly encouraging as she shares on the significance of becoming a writer and not to merely confine oneself in teaching in order to move ahead in academic profession. It doesn’t matter how long it takes to complete the task but to discipline oneself to start with one or two sentences a day sounds very real and practical too. It was an inspiring session of listening to experiences of women’s struggle in publishing houses and the smart move it takes to go on in life is to have faith in self and perseveres until one’s aspiration are achieved.

Sports Week 2025

The Annual Sports Week was held from 6th – 8th February, 2025. It was an enriching experience which taught me the essence of sportsmanship, teamwork and resilience. Different games such as futsal, basketball, tug-of-war, arm wrestling, etc were conducted and every game was filled with excitement. The laughters, the high-fives for win, close finishes and even defeats brought us closer, giving us the sense of belonging.

On the third day, as we sat down for the Closing Ceremony I felt a mixed emotion of happiness and nostalgia. Looking back at the event, I realized that it wasn’t just about winning but the memory of those moments that I will carry with me even after I leave Unity College of Teacher Education.

International Wood Carving Exchange Workshop

The International Wood Carving Exchange Workshop was held at the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) on 7th November, 2024 in Dimapur, Nagaland, in collaboration with Lanna, Thailand, and local sculptor artists from Nagaland.

We had the privilege of witnessing a truly unique and inspiring artistic collaboration. The event brought together six sculptors from Lanna, Thailand, and six sculptors from Nagaland, creating a rare space where two rich traditions in wood carving could meet, interact, and merge. What stood out the most to me was the concept behind the workshop each wooden pole sculpture was a joint effort between one Thai and one Naga artist. Together, they carved on the same pole, blending their distinctive styles and motifs into a unified piece of art. It was fascinating to observe how the bold and detailed forms of Naga carving seamlessly intertwined with the more fluid and intricate Thai designs. Despite their differences, the artists worked in harmony, often exchanging ideas and techniques while respecting each other’s traditions. Watching the sculptors work side by side was a moving experience. Their communication often went beyond words through gestures, shared tools, and the universal language of art. It was clear that this exchange wasn’t just about the final product, but about learning, understanding, and forming connections. Each of the poles told stories of two cultures meeting and finding common ground through creativity. As a viewer, I found myself appreciating not only the craftsmanship but the cultural depth embedded in each sculpture. These were not just artworks, but symbols of unity and mutual respect.

The event was beautifully organized with spaces for interaction, observation, and even informal conversations between artists and spectators. It was an enriching experience to learn about the significance of different patterns and symbols directly from the artists themselves. I left the workshop feeling deeply inspired and hopeful, reminded of how powerful art can be in bringing people together across borders and backgrounds. The workshop was met with enthusiastic responses from both the participating artists and the broader community. Many expressed a deep appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate and hoped for more such initiatives in the future.

Kachari Rajbari Ruins, Dimapur

On April 12, we B.Ed second semester student-teachers of UCTE went on an educational visit to the Kachari Rajbari Ruins in Dimapur, along with our professors, H. Akup Büchemhü and V. Uto Chishi. Even though I live in Dimapur, it was my first time visiting this historical site. After visiting the ancient stone pillars i have realized how important and rich our local history is. These ruins are the remains of the Kachari kingdom and gave us a glimpse into the past. What made the visit even more memorable was the live painting session. Our teacher encouraged us to sit quietly, observe, and paint what we felt. It was my first time trying live painting, and I quickly realized how challenging yet calming the process can be. Through this activity, I learned to see details I would have otherwise missed. This visit helped me appreciate history and art in a new light, making it an unforgettable experience.

International World Theatre Day cum Painting Exhibition

The day of 27th and 28th march 2025, was celebrated with colourful joys of expression at Unity college of Teacher Education Dimapur, under the theme, “Theatre and culture of peace” organised by Drama and Fine arts club, under the guidance of Mr. H. Akup Buchemhu Asst-Professor (Fine Arts) and Mr. Uto Chishi Asst. professor (Drama), where Hundred pieces of painting works were exhibited by 2nd semester students and followed by two Drama performances and also a trailer to be performed on Cultural Day Cum Food Fest. According to my observation.

The painting displayed by the students was really heart touching as every student tried to express their emotion, feeling and their talents through the Painting. I in particular was not experienced enough in painting but with the guidance of my professor I could also present my painting to express my thoughts and feelings which i felt satisfactory and also had a lot of experiences in the art of painting.

Moving on to the drama Section the three plays gave a mixture of emotion, mystery, laughter, action etc The costumes, props, etc were all realistic and matching with the role they are portraying. It was really exciting, interesting and also filled with emotions. This drama has really provided valuable insight into the themes, characters and techniques. in theatrical performances. I really gained a deeper appreciation for how drama communicates complex emotions and societal Values. It helped me to develop my creativity, collaboration and Critical thinking skills over all, drama Continues to be a powerful medium for story telling and self expression.

My Experience as a Chairperson – International Women’s Day 2025

On the 7th of March, 2025, I had the privilege of being the chairperson during International Women’s Day celebration at Unity College of Teacher Education, Dimapur. The event was held in the Reading Room and the theme for this year was “Accelerate Action.” It was a truly special and meaningful experience for me, both as a student and as an individual.

As the chairperson, I started the programme by welcoming everyone and sharing a few thoughts about the importance of International Women’s Day. I also spoke about why it is essential for us, as B.Ed students to understand and promote gender equality not just in theory but in our daily lives and future classrooms.

The event featured an invocation by Sir V. Uto Chishi, Asst. Prof., UCTE, a powerful poem by Mr. Sehochem Sangtam and a beautiful song by Ms. Zubeen Newmai. Each item contributed to the emotion and message of the day.

The highlight of the event was the exhortation by our guest speaker, Ms. Repabenla Longkumer, Advocate and Case Worker at Sakhi One Stop Centre, Dimapur. Her speech left a lasting impression on all of us. Some of the key points she shared included:

  • The seriousness of harassment and cyber crime.
  • The need for education for the girl child.
  • Knowing our rights and responsibilities.
  • The importance of economic empowerment for women.
  • Free legal services, shelters and counseling available through Sakhi One Stop Centre.
  • The rising number of cases in Dimapur, especially related to violence and missing women.
  • Our legal rights like right to privacy, right to file FIRs by email and confidentiality.

She reminded us to support and empower one another as women. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Neikerheno Secu, Asst. Prof, UCTE.

Overall, it was a proud and meaningful experience for me. Being the chairperson helped me grow in confidence and I also learned to handle responsibility in front of the crowd. The messages shared during the event really opened my eyes to many important issues that women face today. I believe this experience will help me not only in my journey as a teacher but also in becoming a responsible member of society.

The Campus was filled with dance, music, colour, food and a whole lot of laughter and buzz. The biggest takeaway is the ability of such events to strengthen a sense of belongingness within the college community.

Unifest 4.0

Unifest 4.0 was a vibrant and enriching experience that brought together talent, creativity and unity under one platform. The variety of events ranging from literary competitions like extempore and poetry slam to visual arts, music and cultural performances, offered something meaningful for everyone.

Witnessing the events allowed me to grow both personally and socially. It helped me step outside my comfort zone, engage with new people and appreciate diverse forms of expression. Event like the Unity Voice Hunt and Art Exhibition reminded me of the power of voice and vision in shaping ideas and inspiring others.

What stood out most was the spirit of collaboration and healthy competition that the festival encouraged. The dedication of the participants and the enthusiasm of the audience made the entire experience truly memorable.

The experiences I had, whether participating or simply cheering others on, helped me build confidence, improve my communication and most importantly, reminded me of the value of teamwork and celebration. These two days were not just events on a schedule but memories and lessons I’ll carry into my future both personally and professionally.

Swachta Hi Seva Abhiyaan

Participating in Swachta Hi Seva Abhiyaan was an eye-opening experience. I never really paid attention to how I was unconsciously contributing towards pollution. I had no idea on how the waste collected were treated and it’s impacts on the quality of air. Through the program I learnt about the harmful effects of micro plastics and multilayered plastics. I learnt various information about waste management and the importance of waste segregation. Since that day my actions of dealing with waste has significantly changed.

Visit to NEISSR

The visit to NEISSR on 1st March 2024 was a truly meaningful and memorable experience. The session with Fr. Anto is very significant for me because he talked about education, solving conflicts, and the important role teachers play in students’ lives. One thing that stayed with me was when he said that we must be happy teachers to create happy classrooms. His words made me realise how powerful kindness and joy can be in education. Fr. Anto also explained that conflicts are not always bad. If we understand and manage them well, they can help people learn and grow and much more.

Overall, the visit helped me understand that being a teacher is not just about teaching subjects, but about guiding students with love, peace, and responsibility. It gave me hope and inspired me to become a better person and a better teacher in the future.

Visit to NEISSR

The institutional visit to the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) was a deeply enriching experience. Out of the many learnings, one striking lesson was the example of a rubber band mention by Fr. Anto — the fact that when both parties keep pulling from opposite sides, the rubber eventually snaps. Similarly, unresolved tension and lack of understanding can lead to conflict and division. This simple yet powerful metaphor made me reflect deeply on the importance of dialogue, empathy, and release in conflict situations. The infrastructure was very impressive and the presence of QR scanners for student support services showed the institute’s commitment to safety, care, and inclusivity.

This visit helped me understand peace education not just as a subject, but as a way of living and teaching. It inspired me to grow into an educator who nurtures, listens, and builds a classroom rooted in peace and empathy.

As the Co-Convener of the National Seminar held on 23rd and 24th March, 2023, it gives me immense pleasure to reflect on the success of this event. The seminar served as a vibrant platform for educators, researchers, and scholars from various institution and universities to come together and engage in meaningful discussion on the themes of the seminar. The keynote addresses and panel discussions were especially inspiring, highlighting emerging trends and the importance of sustainable development in education. All sessions were well-organized, thought-provoking, and highly relevant to current educational and societal challenges. The depth and diversity of the presentations, combined with the active participation of attendees, truly enriched the academic atmosphere. Each session had thoughtful discussion, encouraged critical reflection, and opened a new path for future collaboration. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the resource persons, presenters, participants, and organizing committee members whose contributions made this event a grand success.

Mathmania

I had a great time being part of the Mathmania program. The theme, “Where creativity meets logic,” was very good and was shown well throughout the event. I enjoyed the whole program and felt both inspired and interested. One of the best parts for me was learning about different mathematicians and scientists and their amazing work. It was interesting to hear the human stories behind their discoveries, which made math more exciting.

Every part of the event from the Algebra presentation to Brainy battle and the creative Model Presentations was fun and well planned. The hard work of the presenters, organizers, and participants was clear. I liked how the event mixed fun and learning, making math feel alive and useful. The department of mathematics UCTE organised an activity under the theme “Mathmania – where creativity meets logic” on 30th January 2025. The theme itself was inspiring and the event successfully highlighted the fun and practical side of mathematics. The programme was well-organized with a smooth flow from one segment to the next. Each session had a unique focus and reminded us how mathematics is embedded in our everyday experiences.

While the event was largely successful, a few minor improvements like ensuring strict time management, including more model presentations, and clearer transition between sessions could make future events even better.

Overall, ” Mathmania” was a wonderful initiative that made learning mathematics enjoyable and interactive.

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire math activity hosted by the math pedagogy student-teachers. The activates demonstrated on the ability to learn concepts and how to grasp the complex formulae, including different math games, quiz, etc which made the event livelier and more interesting. However, it would have been more interesting if it included fun facts related to maths, or maybe smart calculation techniques and so on. But nevertheless, I acknowledge the effort and hard-work the math pedagogy student-teachers have put in to entertain and teach us that math is not BORING, but rather it is as interesting as any other subjects in school.

My two years at UCTE was pure serendipity. This institution gave me a taste of what real education is. It provided me a platform to furnish my skills and grow professionally and personally.

One of the best part about UCTE is, the top notch teacher-educators and it’s finest infrastructures. UCTE provide the student-teachers number of opportunities that inspire and mould us to become a better version of ourselves.

It was my immense delight to be part of the UCTE family, my second home.

Toshimenba

(Batch of 2022-2024)

If I had to describe UCTE in one word, it would be ‘community’: the community of students that develops throughout the semesters, always supporting one another; the community of teachers that are ever willing, and able, to help out no matter the issue; the community of administrators that make sure that our development as teachers is always the main concern; and the overall UCTE community that has fostered a safe and productive environment, helping each one of us develop the necessary skills to become who we want to become.

Adding to this, the college provided facilities such as a rich library, elevators and ramps for the physically challenged, a computer lab, seminar hall, and a peaceful learning environment due to its distance from any main roads. All this contributed greatly to our learning experience.

My time in UCTE has been the highlight by an overwhelming enthusiasm from the people around me to learn and grow, and I can do nothing but be immensely grateful for all that the college has done for me. This is a great place for learning, and it has been a wonderful home for me the past two years. The lessons I have learned here have been fundamental to my growth as a teacher in training, and they will stay with me, always.
