Unity College Dimapur organised its Annual Sports Meet 2026 from 29 to 30 January this year at the
DDSC Stadium. The two-day event witnessed a wide range of sports and athletic competitions.
Teams were formed comprising students from the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and B.Ed.
programmes. The five participating teams were Bourbon, Dover, Panama, Phoenix, and Windsor.
The inaugural ceremony began with an invocation by Ms. Avibo Chishi, Assistant Professor, Unity
College, followed by the college pledge led by the Music Club, Unity College. Dr. Akala
Longkumer, Principal, UCTE, exhorted the students, describing the playing field as a vital extension
of the classroom. She emphasised that while winning fosters confidence, defeat builds
resilience—both essential for holistic excellence. This was followed by a special dance performance
by Nongam Konyak, winner of the Unifest Dance Competition 2025. The oath-taking ceremony was
led by Moung Lemla, Sports Secretary, UCPGSC, followed by the torch-lighting ceremony. Students
actively participated in a variety of sports and games, including arm wrestling, basketball, cricket,
football, high jump, javelin throw, long jump, penalty shootout, races, shot put, table tennis, tug of
war, and volleyball. Students also opened up food stalls, collecting and raising funds for their
respective clubs and committees.
The Annual Sports Meet culminated with a prize distribution ceremony on the second day. A flash
mob was presented by students of Unity College and the vote of thanks was delivered by
Thungjanthung Khenchung, Sports Secretary, UCSC, after which prizes were distributed. The
programme concluded with a thanksgiving prayer by Mrs. Paulina Whuorie, Assistant Professor,
UCTE, followed by the declaration of champions. Team Dover emerged as the Overall Champion,
while Team Phoenix was adjudged the Runners-up and also won the Best Disciplined Team award.
The Best House Flag awards were bagged by Team Dover and Team Phoenix, respectively.
