On 1st March 2025, 8 Student teachers namely Mhabeni, Ngaugia, Smita, Tsentsuthung,
Jongkoi, Sanjana, Vikrunu and Angel from 4th Semester under the course Peace Education
along with the teacher in-charge Dr. Toreiphi Mungleng had the opportunity to visit the North
East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) for an insightful institutional visit.
The primary objective of the visit was to interact with the Principal Dr. Fr. Anton and
faculties of NEISSR to gain a deeper understanding of Peace Education subject, and its
significance in today’s educational scenerio.
The session with Dr. Fr. Anton was highly enriching, offering valuable insights into peace
education and conflict resolutions. He emphasized the need to be happy teachers in order to
create a happy and safe learning environment. He encouraged never to deprive ourselves of
the opportunity to become great teachers, as educators play a crucial role in shaping young
minds.
Dr. Fr. Anton further elaborated on different levels of conflicts, including intrapersonal,
interpersonal, intra-group and interfaith conflicts, stressing the importance of addressing them
through peace initiatives. He highlighted that resolving such conflicts can lead to a
transformative journey for individuals and communities.
He also shared his unique perspective on the term “Adult,” emphasizing that as grown-ups,
we must embrace our responsibilities and duties. He urged future educators to act as mentors
of the broken ends of younger generations, guiding them toward a better future.
Another thought-provoking insight shared was about conflict itself. He explained that conflict
is not necessarily negative—if it is functional rather than dysfunctional, it can foster
enthusiasm and promote peace by encouraging growth and understanding.
The Student Teachers also had the opportunity to tour the Classroom and Campus Facilities
by the faculty Ms. Elizabeth which includes visits to key facilities such as
Principal’s Office
Faculty Staff Room
Classrooms
Library
Peace Museum
Literary Club
Counseling Room etc.
Each space was thoughtfully designed to foster academic excellence, personal growth, and a
peaceful learning environment.
Unique Features of NEISSR
One of the most remarkable features of NEISSR is its scanners placed strategically across the
campus, offering immediate access to resources and support regarding:
-Anti-ragging measures
-Sexual harassment prevention
-Student grievances
-Women and gender development initiatives
-Counseling services
These scanners ensure that students can seek help with ease, fostering a safe and inclusive
environment.
Another unique feature is the Honesty Shop, a self-service store offering essential stationery
items. Below the shop, a cash counter operates on the principle of trust, where students are
expected to pay the correct amount without supervision—a testament to the institution’s
commitment to integrity and ethical values.
The visit to NEISSR was an enlightening experience, offering deep insights into peace
education and the institution’s efforts in promoting a holistic and value-driven learning
environment. The interactive session with Dr. Fr. Anton, along with the exploration of the
campus and its innovative features, made the visit truly memorable. His words of
encouragement and wisdom left a lasting impact, inspiring us to embrace our roles as future
educators who can shape a more peaceful and just society.
