LANNA-Thailand And Nagaland Wood Craving Exchange Workshop

On 7th November 2024, 30 student-teachers from the B.Ed. 3rd semester along with 3 teachers of Unity College of Teacher Education attended the closing event of LANNA-THAILAND AND NAGALAND WOOD CRAVING EXCHANGE WORKSHOP at North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, Nagaland from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. “LANNA in Thai means ‘many provinces or the northern region of the country.” The workshop was organized by Chiang Mai University (CMU), Thailand, in collaboration with NEZCC featuring 9 Naga artists among which is Akhup Buchem, a fine arts Teacher Educator of UCTE and 5 Thai artists collaborating to create nine unique wood carvings.

The program began with the display of wood art, featuring different types of wood carvings made through the collaboration between Thai and Naga artists, hosted by Wipawee Panjinda, PhD, Lecturer in the Department of Visual Art. The Chakhesang cultural songs were also performed by the Zuve Cultural Club. The chief guest, Shri Ar. Jwenga Seb, stressed on the importance of art as a medium of communication that expresses culture and ideas across different boundaries. The director of NEZCC, Dr. Prashanna Gogoi, also addressed on the possibilities of future collaboration and stone sculpture as well. It was an enlightening moment to listen to artists on their experiences and work culture of the Naga and Thai people. It encourages the student teachers to understand art more holistically and helps enhance the creative knowledge in integrating art in teachings.
