The Unity College of Teacher Education, Dimapur, Nagaland, successfully organized 5
days programme titled “Minds Open” on the 22nd, 23rd, 26th, 27th, and 30th of May, 2025
The program was designed for the outgoing batch of B.Ed. 4 th Semester. It aimed to guide
student teachers into the next step and also prepare them mentally to face the real world.
The program was divided into sessions where a total of six dynamic, intellectual and
experienced individuals shared their powerful insights, real life experiences and work
experiences too.
The event featured a distinguished panel of speakers from diverse backgrounds. Dr.
Orenthung Ovung, Administrator of Unity College of Teacher Education, set the tone with a
powerful address on the role of teachers in the society. Dr. Akala Longkumer, Principal of
Unity College of Teacher Education, provided insightful sessions that enriched the
participants’ understanding of different domains of quotient for self-development and also
conducted personality assessment test. Dr. Imnarenla Aier, Mentor at PrepSchool for Civil
Services, delivered an inspiring talk focusing on mentorship, motivation, and the relevance
of civil service preparation in shaping a progressive society. Mrs. Patricia Zhimomi, Vice
Principal of Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, who shared her experiences in
school administration and teaching methodologies. Ms. Imnasenla Jamir, Assistant
Professor, Department of Education, Unity College, who addressed the various examinations
of Nagaland and shared tips and tricks on time management and study routines. Mrs.
Paulina Whuorie, Assistant Professor at Unity College of Teacher Education, who
emphasized inclusive education and the role of teachers in building empathetic classrooms.
Each session concluded with interactive discussions, allowing participants to engage
directly with the speakers and clarify their doubts. The programme received enthusiastic
participation from both faculty members and teacher trainees, making it a highly enriching
and successful academic event. “Minds Open” proved to be a significant initiative by Unity
College of Teacher Education in fostering professional growth and reflection among student
teachers. It stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to academic excellence
and community engagement in the field of teacher education.
