The Unity College of Teacher Education, Dimapur Nagaland attended a one-day workshop on Career Opportunities in the context of NEP 2020 on 4th July 2025, Friday at Livingstone Foundation International School, Dimapur Nagaland, organised by the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya, in association with Nagaland University and North East Christian University, Nagaland. Dr. Akala Longkumer, Principal of UCTE, along with Mrs. Keneivi-ü Rhatsu, Dr. Aribam Pratima Devi, Assistant Professors of UCTE, and student teachers attended the programme.
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM, followed by greetings from Dr. Darlando T. Khathing, Vice-Chancellor of NECU. The Chief Guest, Shri Alemtemshi Jamir, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Nagaland, delivered an insightful keynote address highlighting that NEP 2020 is deeply rooted in the principles of gyan (knowledge), pragya (wisdom), and satya (truth). He emphasized that the policy seeks to ensure access, equity, and quality in education, aiming to shift the traditional mindset dominated by aspirations for government jobs. NEP 2020, he remarked, is a structural shift from colonial-era education, moving towards holistic development and diverse career readiness.
Prof. Pauline Alila, Head of the Department of Horticulture and In-charge Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Medziphema campus, elaborated on how NEP 2020 equips learners with multidisciplinary skills and flexible learning opportunities. She stressed the importance of aligning education with the 21st-century job market by integrating technology, skill-based education, and industry collaboration.
The workshop also included a special felicitation ceremony for the toppers of NBSE HSSLC 2025 and the host school, who were awarded with cash prizes, certificates, and momentos.
Dr. Debasish Saha, Director of Operations, USTM, delivered an informative presentation on emerging career opportunities in the light of NEP 2020. Prof. G.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM, addressed the students with an inspiring talk on the future of education and careers.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kughatoli Aye, Head of the Department of Sociology, USTM, followed by a delightful lunch hosted by the organisers.
